Face Shapes... | |
| Your face shape and side profile are important in helping to determine a hair style. Your height, size, face, neck, age, lifestyle and fashion profile all determine the right style for you. An observant hairstylist will take notice to all of these features when consulting with you. | |
| OVAL-- the ideal face shape because it is longer than it is wide and appears balanced. Most hairstyles work well, but do not wear a style that accentuates length, as it may disrupt the balance. | ![]() |
| OBLONG-- browbone, cheekbone and jawline are approximately the same width, but face is noticeably longer than it is wide. Keep your hair full at the sides. Mid-length works best. Forehead fringe diminishes length. Avoid shoulder-length hair and height on top. The perfect style would be a cheek to chin length bob with face framing fringe that can be spritzed back on the sides for fullness. If tucking behind ears, have fullness behind ears. | ![]() |
| SQUARE--browbone, cheekbone and jawline are approximately the same width, forming a straight line. Width of the face is more than 2/3 the length, creating the illusion of a short face. Hair should always be worn soft around the face to soften . Uneven fringe on forehead and height in the crown are great ways to make a square face appear more oval. A great style for square faces is a side part with a soft body wave to keep it framing the face. | ![]() |
| ROUND-- distinguished by round curved lines. Cheekbones are wider than browbone and jawline. Width of face is more than 2/3 the length. You must have added length in the crown, regardless of the length. Avoid straight full and horizontal lines. Asymmetrical lines create length. The shag is a great style for round faces because it creates long lines. If hair is to be worn short, have close, whispy sides. | ![]() |
| DIAMOND-- short angular lines. Cheekbones are wider than browbone and jawline. Width of face is more than 2/3 the length. Keep style narrow at cheekbones, wider elsewhere. Add fullness at crown and below ear to balance narrow angles. A beveled chin bob is nice here, and the tuck-behind -ears works nicely. Remember to keep fullness below ears. | ![]() |
| INVERTED TRIANGLE-- browbone and cheekbone are significantly wider than jawline. Hair should be worn chin length or below. Fullest area should be around jawline. Avoid top heavy looks or horizontal bangs. A beveled bob with soft waves works well. If forehead fringe is to be worn, keep it soft. | ![]() |
